Inhabited for over a millennium and originally Norman, once the refuge of the Knights Templar, Imperial residence, a guest house, convent, fortified house, and for at least three hundred years, the home of the owner of a nearby estate in the Val D'Orcia. In a separate wing, once used for agricultural purposes, there are now guest rooms. The rooms open off a stairwell which rises towards a bright, sunny dome. The stairwell was originally Romanesque but has been altered many times over the course of time until it gained its present appearance in the nineteenth century. The exterior, like secret eyes, looks out at the noteworthy monuments of San Quirico and the Val D'Orcia.
